Fishing Cactus Introduce Master Shee!

After waiting several months for news, Fishing Cactus, the company behind Creatures 4, finally have a somewhat odd-looking announcement:

"About Master Shee, he’s a pretty funny fellow and embodies the “naïve geniality” trait that defines the Shee. He will be your main counsel in Creatures 4 and provide you with all the information required to play the game."

To be honest I find Master Shee looks a little creepy, like an elderly man wearing too much fake tan got Norn ear implants and decided to wear a lab outfit.

A Few Releases

Here are several Creatures projects that I have previously worked on or never released:

The RGB Norns were a variety of red, green and blue Chichi Norns that I was going to release for the CCSF 2011. Unfortunately I lost interest in them, but here they are for your enjoyment! I may make an egg agent later if people want me to. Download the RGB Norns here!

The Tutti-Frutti Norns were originally created by me in 2007 under the name of "Bonsai Norns". They are C2 only and were created after splicing generations of Creatures. Please analyse their genome as much as possible! Download the Tutti-Frutti Norns here!

Regarding my future projects, I have recently considered creating a new Ettin genetic breed, named the Jewel Ettins in regards to the fact that they come in three varieties: Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald. They are also a homage to the late Creatures Community member, Jewels, who passed away in 2001 after suffering a stroke.

Problems Regarding Docking Station Galaxy

Rest assured that this was only a minor problem with blogger, and I haven't given up on the blog! Is Your Creatures Exodus installed Properly?

As a Creatures Exodus owner, have you ever gone to inject an agent in your C3/DS world and it hasn't injected properly or the game cannot find the catalogue file? If this is the case, download Amaikokonut's catalogue tester agent from here and inject it into your world. If there is a problem with your catalogue files, do the following:

Uninstall Creatures Exodus (You may want to back up your important files such as COBs).
Run the Creatures Exodus installer and choose (For Windows XP) C:\Documents & Settings\Your Username\My Documents\Creatures or (For Windows Vista and Windows 7) C:\Users\Your Username\Documents\Creatures.
After the installation is complete, run either DS or C3 and inject the catalogue tester.
If the tester reports no problems, well done, you have fixed your game!

I have also found this method of installing creates a significant performance boost in slow worlds. My main world that contains 27 Norns ran like a freshly-installed world afterwards!

DS Galaxy Creature Trading

Does anyone want to trade Norns/Grendels/Ettins with me? If you do, add me (C-Rex) to your in-game friends list and send me some of your Norns. I'm sure I'll be able to dig out some interesting Creatures for your world!

Please make sure all of the Creatures you send me are free of disease and have a good genetic history. The same will apply to my creatures too; I wouldn't want to be responsible for a warp-wide epidemic now, would I? Also, if your Creatures require any additional sprites, please let me know!

Strawberry Garden Diary: Entry Six - Beginning of a New Age

Here's the most recent, long-awaited diary entry into the Strawberry Garden Diary!

When I started up theStrawberry Garden for the first time in weeks, I was surprised to see two NornsI hadn’t spoken about in the previous entries: Violet and Hider.

Hider looks like muchlike an ordinary Chichi Norn. He alsoappears to be the son of Blueberry and Petal. Looks like Blueberry got noticedafter all! I probably named him after the fact he was hiding in the Workshopduring the failed IQ Test.

The other Norn in the world is Violet. She is the daughterof Fizz and Luger, and has a gorgeous purple colouration to her.

After a short while,a new Norn baby hatched. He has a bright red colouration, so I decided to callhim Raspberry. He seems to enjoy spending most of his time in the tree house,much like the late Forager. He also seems to enjoy drinking Yule Booze too, andgot quite drunk!

Raspberry’s birth wasshortly followed by Marmalade, another Chichi Norn, but with an orange tint. Heseems to be a fast ager too.

I have recently been alertedto a number of death noises in the NornGarden, and it seems some of the Nornsare refusing to eat. The Grendels alsoappeared to be starving, so I added a Mini Vendor to the Capillata Hub toprovide them with food. At a populationof eight, that’s a lot of mouths to feed.

Another Norn was born after a short while. He was brightyellow in colour, so I named him Sunflower. His birth was also followed by Shadow, a cute little Chichi Norn with ablack tint.

As you can probably see, the population of the StrawberryGarden is slowly but surely increasing, but what will the future hold for ourfamily of Norns?

At Last, the DS Server is back Online!

Yep, you've heard it right; the Docking Station server is indeed back online! Unfortunately the registration server is still down, which means new users can't use the online capabilities, but at least we can now have fun exchange Norns over the web again!

If you want to send me a Norn or two, add 'C-Rex' to your friends list. You should also check out Live Nornish Action, where you can send your own Norns in by adding 'LNA' to your contacts and then warping your Norns to them.

How to run Creatures 2 on Windows 7 & Vista

Creatures 2 is infamous for being the only Creatures game that won't run on any of the new operating systems. This is extremely frustrating for many players, especially me (it was my first Creatures game) but fear not! Here is a fix for the problem, courtesy of the user Deji:

Download a hex editor (I recommend HexDen)
2. Create a backup of your creatures2.exe file - in case there is a problem editing.
3. Open creatures2.exe in HexDen.
4. Press Ctrl+G and type 46760 (with the "hex" radio button selected)
5. Make sure what follows the editing cursor is 55 - if it isn't, this probably won't work for you.
6. Change the value (55) to C3.
7. Press Ctrl+S to save the file.
8. Run Creatures 2 as normal, through the launcher.exe.

The only side-effect to this fix is that the hand will flicker as you move it around the world, but its easy to live with. Below is a video of me playing the game on my Windows 7 laptop. :)

Just an Update

I apologize for Docking Station Galaxy not being active that recently. My interest in Creatures has somewhat decreased, and I am currently preoccupied with the game Skyrim (and a few other games). However, rest assured that I will never close DS Galaxy, and I welcome any suggestions you have at my e-mail: TreehuggaNornz@hotmail.com. I'll make sure I read through any suggestions I read and try and implement them into the blog.

Unfortunately, I don't plan on bringing Adoption of the Day back...yet. I find my Mobile Broadband unreliable and as a result I won't be able to keep posting a download of the week each Friday. However, you can always check community websites such as Creatures Caves for the latest addons.

Also keep in mind that the new Creatures 4 is due out next year, and I am sure that I will give you all a look at the game once I get it.

Creatures 4 is Delayed!

The folks at Fishing Cactus have recently informed the Creatures Community that unfortunately the new Creatures game has been delayed in order to make further improvements. While it might seem like an inconvenience, it will actually give them more time to work on game features and to fix any bugs they may have come across.

I'm very sorry I haven't been active in the blog lately. I haven't really had that much time, what with my internet running out and college, but I hope to be able to soon post the latest update in the Strawberry Garden Diary soon.

Salamander Norns - My New Genetic Breed

After many months of anticipation, my new genetic breed, the Salamander Norns, have been released for the CCSF 2011!

From the care guide:

Salamander Norns are strictly carnivorous, and plants and fruits have no nutritional value to them whatsoever. In order to keep them healthy, you should feed your Salamander Norns bugs and critters as a source of protein, although you should also feed them food, such as carrots or cheese, in addition to this, in order to provide them with fat. Salamander Norns are also detritivores, and must eat detritus as it provides them with starch. Keep in mind that Salamander Norns are not Toxic Norns, and they can still die if they become heavily infected with bacteria.

As there aren't any edible critters onboard the Capillata, you should try downloading some, or you could use the Crobsters from the Bondi Norn Pack. You could also try feeding your Salamander Norns stingers as they are immune to Geddonase, but they are still somewhat painful to eat. Many critters and bugs from the Creatures 3 Ark, such as dragonfly larvae and hedgehogs, are also good food sources.

My life has mainly been devoted to college mainly and I haven't really had time for creatures (or the website for that matter) but I'd just like to let you all know that I'm still here, just a bit busy. CCSF 2011 Genetic Breed Sneak Peek

The Creatures Community Spirit Festival 2011 is coming up fast, so here's a little sneak peak into what I have in store.

In case you don't know, I am planning on releasing a new genetic breed, which will be amphibious and capable of living in water. It will use a variety of different sprites, and will be fully capable of swimming should you have the Improved Swimmeragent installed.

The CCSF 2011 will be organised by Laura and will run from the 1st November to the 14th, and will have a theme of New Faces: new users, creators starting small, and perhaps a new game to boot.

For the past few days I have been running a wolfling run in my world, Wolfland. After around a week I present to you the 57 Norns that this run has produced.

Keep in mind that for these Norns to display properly you will need:

Fallow Norn sprites
Hardman Norn sprites
Apple Norn sprites
Treehugger Norn sprites
Siamese Norn sprites

Also please keep in mind that many of the Norns may have diseases/conditions that have been undetected. Ensure that you spray anti-bacterial spray on any of the Norns in case they have a disease. It is also possible that one or two may be pregnant, so make sure you keep your eyes out for any eggs being laid!

Download Of the Week - Apple Norns

Originally created to be released with The Canopy metaroom, the Apple Norns are somewhat similar to Treehugger Norns. They are also immune to ATP Decoupler and Cyanide, both of which are found in apple seeds.

Meet Galen & Quirin's Daughters!

I'm sorry I haven't updated on Galen and Quirin as often as some of you would have probably liked, but I'd just like to tell you that they are both perfectly fine, and are now both adults and have their own mates: Lily and Rose.

Furthermore both Galen and Quirin are now parents and now have their own adorable little daughters: Carole and Myst!

Note: The Norns in the pictures are younger than they are now.

Myst is the daughter of Rose and Galen. She has a beautiful Magenta and Green colouration, but unfortunately seems to suffer from a limp that her father also has.

Carole is the daughter of Lily and Quirin. She has been changing her colour throughout her life, and is now a beautiful lime-green colour.

For those of you who want to know, the Strawberry Garden Diary is currently on hold. I also haven't really been using that world for a while, so don't worry, you haven't missed anything!

Sorry I haven't been that active guys, I've had a lot going on these past few days. Yesterday though I received my exam results and I got:

I am also glad to say that I now have a place at college on the Games Design Course!

Anyway, back to Creatures. As you all know the CCSF 2011 is coming up and I've decided to submit a special little genetic project I've been working on this week. I won't say much now, but just to let you know it's my first amphibious genetic breed. Hope you look forward to them.

The Furby - My New Agent for DS

Here it is, a new agent for Docking Station - A Furby! For those of you who don't know what furbies are, they are relatively annoying robotic toys that were around in the late 90s and brought back in 2005.

The Furby provides a lot of entertainment for your bored creatures, and is great company for lonely Norns. It will also speak one of five phrases when pushed.

I'd also like to thank Horstj for his help making the agent file. Without his help, I wouldn't have been able to make the furby at all.

Download Of the Week - Gaia

Have you ever wanted a living, breathing robotic pet? Then why not try Lis Morris' brilliant Gaia?

Gaia is a rather large robotic creature who spends her time in the Engineering area of the Shee Ark. Whenever a species becomes extinct on board the ship, Gaia can use her special abilities to bring it back! Also, Gaia doesn't need regular food to survive; just give her some old useless gadgets and she'll gobble 'em up! She'll also need a regular supply of bioenergy, so make sure you have plenty!

Note: If you have the exodus version of Creatures 3, then you will need to copy all of the files from your My Documents folder to the Creatures 3 directory in order for Gaia to work correctly.

Meet the New Mascots!

The mascot contest is now over, and Docking Station Galaxy now has its own adorable Norn mascots! The winners of the competition are sam999 and Jessica. Congratulations to you both!

Here are my new mascots:

Galen
This adorable little rusty-red Norn was bred by sam999. He is part Astro Norn and part Estrella Norn, giving him the most adorable little stars on his tummy! Other highlights are his bright green eyelids, hands and feet.

Quirin
Quirin is no ordinary Astro Norn; he gains a green tint when he reaches adolescence! This cute little Norn was bred as part of Jessica's Butterfly Norn/Astro Norn wolfing run and loves playing with Galen.

Both Norns will be given a complete life of luxury in their own world, Masconia, where they will live out their lives in peace and harmony. I will accept people to e-mail Norns to me that they want to breed with them, and I can then e-mail them back along with any offspring produced.

Strawberry Garden Diary: Entry Five - The End of an Era

To ensure the best DNA of my population of Norns survives, I have decided to conduct an IQ test to weed out any Norns who may not be beneficial to the living population. I have also locked all of the Grendels in the Comms room to stop any Norns being beaten to death.

Shortly before I moved the Norns to The Workshop, an egg hatched and an adorable little purple Norn hatched out. I named him Ribena because he reminded me of a blackcurrant.

It took some time to move everyone to the Workshop, but I eventually managed to do it. Unfortunately, the Norns seem preoccupied with kissing each other and exclaiming how much they ‘like’ Venture. The first Norn up the lift was Petal, who was later followed by the newest arrival, Ribena.

The Grendels were currently in a huddle in the Comms room, spending their entire time procreating. I don’t intend on killing them, so when the IQ test ends I will export them and eventually post them for adoption on the blog.

When I returned to the Workshop, I found many of the Norns stuck in the Containment Chamber, the door being jammed so they couldn’t escape. Also it appeared that Poppy had laid an egg. If I want to stop Norns overrunning the lower level of the Workshop, I may have to lower the population limit.

Tragically, Berri and Forager’s first and only son Cracker died suddenly but peacefully near the door to the Atrium. I don’t know why he died, but I guess he’s at peace now with his mother. Cracker’s death was shortly followed by Forager. I guess its the end of an era for my Norns. Tragically, his death was followed by three more Norns: Nightshade, Flower and Poppy. Consequently, I had to cancel the IQ test and return the remaining Norns to the Norn Garden to mourn the loss of their relatives.

After I returned the survivors back to their home, a new Norn was born with an orange tint. I decided to call her Fizz. Another baby was born too, the last child of Forager. I decided to call him Forager Jr, as homage to his father. He was very unusual as he was the spitting image of his predecessor.

As for now, as of the generation one Norns are now dead. It is now up for the future generations to continue their parents' legacy.

My download for this week is the fantastically beautiful Aquatilus Caverna metaroom. This enormous place is perfect for amphibious and aquatic Norns and provides a wealth of interesting, quirky flora and fauna such as the adorable Kyutai Whales and the highly dangerous Pest Jellyfish.

Download Of the Week - KT and the Sabertooth Norns

The download for this week is Ghosthande's amazing KT metaroom and Sabertooth Norns!

KT is a very large prehistoric-themed metaroom with it's very own wildlife, and lots of toys to keep your Norns entertained! However, KT is also dangerous, as the ferocious Rexes that roam around intend on giving your Norns are nasty bite!

Also released with KT are the Sabertooth Norns. These cute cat-like Norns are unusual from most Norns because they are carnivores, so make sure you provide them with lots of tasty critters to eat!

Download Of the Week - Creatures Full of Edits

The Download Of the Week is none other than the superb CFE (Creatures Full of Edits) genomes created by Vampess. These tweaked genomes fix many problems in the default genomes of Docking Station Norns, from frequent elevator call button pushing, to increasing their chances of survival.

Strawberry Garden Diary: Entry Four - A Few New Surprises

I have recently noticed that Cracker appears to have a darker colouration than his father did when he was an adolescent. For some odd reason, many other users who have bred Pink Strawberry Norns have reported similar occurrences. Maybe their pigment genes mutate more easily than regular Norns?

I suddenly saw that there was a female Banshee Grendel on the loose in the cavern below the garden. She didn’t appear to be much of a threat, but I decided to move her anyway. There are now seven Grendels lurking outside the Norn Garden. I hope none of my Norns makes the mistake of entering the Meso.

Not much seemed to be happening with my Norns. I did catch Bluebery though trying to breed with Poppy. Unfortunately, his Pink Strawberry instincts took hold and he ran away from him in fright!

For a while I did catch a fight between Nightshade and Forager. I found it pretty strange that such a mild-mannered Norn such as Forager would even consider fighting, but she must have been getting on his nerves.

I was soon alerted to a new pregnancy. The baby was soon born, and when I looked at his history I could see his father was in fact Forager! Still, he was very cute, and the first thing he did was slide down on a Lugerleaf, so I called him Luger.

Soon another egg was laid, this time by Petal. Apparently she mated with her stepson, Cracker. I don’t reckon Forager will be pleased when he finds out! Within time an adorable little Norn popped out of the egg. She looked almost exactly like her mother Petal, so I called her Flower.

As soon as Nightshade hit youth, I was quite flabbergasted when her colour changed from a dark purple to regular Pink Strawberry Norn colours! A few seconds after I noticed this, Poppy was pregnant again. Maybe I should have called her “Kiss-Poppy”?

A few moments later I found Poppy on her way to the Norn Meso to lay her egg. It was quite touching to see her risk her life of being beaten up by Grendels to lay her egg. When the baby was born, I could see that the father was also Forager. I’m starting to find that all this inbreeding is bad for the population, and if it continues I may have to separate Forager from the group. I have decided to call this little Norn Venture, after her mother walked all the way to the Meso to give birth to her.

When I took Venture back to the Norn Garden, I could see that another little girl Norn had been born so I decided to call her ‘Mystery’. Her parents are also (you’ve guessed it!) Forager and Poppy.

The population currently stands at ten Norns. Next time I will carry out an IQ test to ensure only the best DNA survives. Of Course, many of my Norns probably won’t make it, but at least they’ll die trying.

Strawberry Garden Diary: Entry Three - Comings And Goings

Berri and Forager’s second child was soon born. I decided to call him Cracker because he immediately ate some Goldfish crackers as soon as he was born. I could soon see he had become quite drunk. Maybe he had drunk some beer from the food vendor?

I was soon alerted to the presence of a Grendel in the garden. It was only a baby though, and didn’t appear to be a threat whatsoever so I decided to take it back to the Meso in case the parents came looking for it.

In order to increase the population, I decided to add a Tribble Norn named Petal to the population. Seeing as both Pink Strawberry Norns and Tribble Norns resembled ChiChi Norns, it probably wouldn’t be a problem.

Sadly however, there was bad news for the Pink Strawberry Norns. Berri had become very sick, and suddenly passed away. I doubt I could have prevented it, as she appeared perfectly healthy when I saw her alive. Needless to say, she will be missed by all.

Within a few moments after Berri’s death, Forager found Petal, and it was love at first sight. After a few seconds Petal was heavily pregnant with Forager’s child. A beautiful dark purple Norn hatched from the egg she had laid. Of course she was a fast-ager, but she had such a dark tinge to her I decided to call her Nightshade.

After about five minutes, Petal laid her second egg. Hopefully it should add much more genetic diversity to the world if I can get Berri’s offspring to breed with Petal’s offspring.

The egg hatched into a beautiful blue Chichi Norn who I named Blueberry. He appears to be extremely inquisitive, although the other Norns don’t appear to notice him that much.

At the moment, the population appears to be standing at six Norns. Eventually if I got more than ten I may perform a wolfing run to test my Norn’s survival instincts. Unfortunately this may result in some of them dying, but many interesting mutations may arise.

Strawberry Garden Diary: Entry Two - Childhood And Beyond

Forager soon reached youth, and the trademark Pink Strawberry Norn colours were really apparent at this stage. Unfortunately, Berri showed very little interest in Forager, and mainly kept herself to herself. In fact, her green colouration made her quite difficult to find, and it took me some time before I her resting in the cave below the Norn Garden.

After a while, Berri reached youth. She doesn’t appear that interested in mating, however, but I may try and bring Forager to her and see what happens.

The two Norns apparently weren’t interested in mating; all they did was kiss each other. Eventually, they both became scared and fled to different parts of the Norn Garden. I guess they’re still too young to realise what true love is!

After a few minutes Forager and Berri still hadn’t bore me any offspring, so I decided to give them a box of goldfish crackers to eat in the meantime. Both Norns took mouthfuls from the box until they had eaten all of the crackers within it. It was quite cute to watch.

Meanwhile, the Banshee Grendels have been breeding, unfortunately. The male has currently had his second child with his own daughter (eww) and they appear to be going strong, unlike my stubborn little Strawberry Norns. Eventually I decided to intervene and use the Cupid’s Lyre on the two little Norns. Within seconds Berri had fallen pregnant with Forager’s child. The birth appeared quite painful indeed, but she soon recovered and went away to sleep. After her sleep, Berri went away to join Forager in the tree. Despite a few kisses, nothing happened apart from Forager suffering a painful fall when he got too close to the edge.

Within a few seconds a baby female Norn hatched from Berri’s egg. I decided to call her Poppy because she was obsessed with the popping pappus plant. She is very cute and inquisitive and seems to enjoy the cuddly tree.

A few moments later I played the Cupid’s Lyre and Berri was pregnant again. It made me realise how difficult my Pin Strawberry Norns were to breed. Maybe I could introduce some Tribble Norn genes into the population.

Within minutes Berri laid her second egg. She then decided to go off and play with her daughter. How cute!

Unfortunately for the Norns, danger lurks behind the door to Norn Meso; a family of six Banshee Grendels have currently taken up residence, and it will only be a matter of minutes before they become crowded and try to move into the Norn Garden.

Strawberry Garden Diary: Entry One - The Births

Welcome into the first entry into my Strawberry garden diary! The next following entries will follow the lives of my two Pink Strawberry Norns, Forager and Berri, and how they live out their lives in my world, The Strawberry Garden. All Norns in this world inhabit The Norngarden metaroom.

The first Norn I hatched was Forager. He was extremely adventurous and I couldn’t keep him still for long! Within a matter of seconds he had climbed the all the way up the giant tree and was playing with the Cuddly Tree I had placed there. He soon dozed off, only to awake and start playing with the tree again. Maybe he’s part Treehugger?

After a few minutes I decided to hatch Forager a mate, so he wouldn’t get lonely. Whilst I waited for the egg to hatch, Forager spent most of the time eating fruit and playing with the Cuddly Tree. He just wouldn’t leave it alone!

Within a few seconds Berri was born. She, like forager, was extremely adventurous. Whilst Berri ate, I had to keep an eye on Forager, who was veering very close to the edge of the giant tree.

After a short while, Berri decided to play with a bouncy plant she had found. A few of these bounced into the pond, which was luckily guarded by a Stopper plant. If Berri would have wandered into the pond, she probably wouldn’t come out again.

Soon Forager eventually decided to venture down from his lone perch and look for something to eat. He was quite far away from Berri, and I doubt he even noticed her!

Forager and Berri soon both decided to go up the lift in the giant tree. Unfortunately, Forager’s Pink Strawberry Norn instincts kicked in, and he ran away from poor Berri with immense fright, right over the edge of the branch! Luckily I was able to catch Forager before he fell in the pool, but it made me realize how dangerous the Norngarden could be. I would obviously need to place the Stopper plant further down, so Norns wouldn’t be stuck in the pond.

Later on, I caught Berri trying to sneak up on Forager whilst he slept. It was one of the most humorous things I have ever seen! As soon as Forager woke up, Berri ran as fast as she could back to pond-side. I really hope that they will both calm down so they can breed when they are adults.

A few moments later though, I caught Berri and Forager both curled up next to each other. Maybe they’re not as scared of each other as I thought.

The Big Fat Norns

I have finished my new genetic breed, The Big Fat Norns, and you can download them from here. You will need the Cave Norn sprites available here at Norngirl's Temporary Storage Place for the breed to display properly.

Currently I am unsure if the breed is C3 compatible. Use this breed with C3 at your own risk.

Included is the .agent file, a care guide and two starter Norns named Fatty and Fatima. Enjoy!

The Big Fat Norns - My New Project Now Available

Creating a new creatures blog has sparked my interest and consequently, I am now in the process of restarting my new genetic breed: The Big Fat Norns!

I was originally inspired by a Norn named Bella that was born in one of my worlds. She humourously had a Cavenorn's body, which made her look extremely fat! However, the picture on the right is actually of her when she was pregnant, so she was obviously less fat.

I will be updating my blog on the progress of the BFNs, so please check regularly.

Feral Run Ideas?

To celebrate the new Docking Station Galaxy website, I have been having thoughts of hosting a feral run in it's honour. If you you have any ideas, please comment below.

Specifications

I will only be using official breeds for my Feral Run
The only unofficial metaroom I will be using is The Norngarden
Participants are welcome to send in their own Norns to compete, as long as they are babies.
Grendels and Ettins are not allowed to enter.
I will not use the warp to accept Norns. You must send them by e-mail instead

Currently, I haven't decided the running dates for the Feral run. Please stay tuned for more info!

Pink Strawberry Norns

The Pink Strawberry Norns were my very first genetic breed for Docking Station. These sweet little Norns scare very easily and are generally very timid, but if you're nice to them, maybe they'll take a liking to you.
